The empathetic home

Increasing aging and a greater demographic pressure are societal changes that strongly influence the Dutch healthcare system. While the demand for care is increasing, there is a shortage of healthcare professionals. Technological innovations can respond to these societal changes and ensure that the elderly can stay at home longer.

The goal of ‘The Empathetic Home’ is to develop a concept that allows the elderly with early dementia to stay at home longer. The empathetic home can support and stimulate these elderly in their daily lives. The technology fully adapts to the user and creates a safe and comfortable living environment.

In the Empathetic Home at Industriepark Kleefse Waard in Arnhem, a demonstration model has been developed in collaboration between the HAN-Lectorate Architecture in Health and various stakeholders, such as Connective Floors BV / Smart Floor.
