The “Smart Floor” technology

The Smart Floor consists of a sensor foil containing 50 sensors per square meter. The floor itself is passive and requires no power to function. The person attaches an active gait sensor at ankle level. This active sensor connects with the passive sensors in the floor while walking. This allows us to capture precise foot positions and, from this, derive key gait parameters such as walking speed, stride length, stride frequency, and the Gait Stability Ratio.

Types of Smart Floor

Mobile Smart Floor

The mobile Smart Floor is one meter wide, only 3 mm thick, and available in two lengths: 6 meters and 10 meters. The floor is light of weight, easy to roll up, and transportable in the included carrying bag. Because of this, the mobile floor can be deployed in different locations with ease.

Integrated Smart Floor

The integrated Smart Floor van be installed within a few hours in both existing and newly constructed floors. The integrated Smart Floor can be made in any desired size, provided it is at least 6 meters long and 1 meter wide.

Neural Network for fall risk estimation

Every year, Smart Floor collaborates with (geriatric) physiotherapists from universities of applied science and healthcare institutions on research into fall prevention. Over the past years, nearly 5,000 walking sessions have been collected and validated by the physiotherapists. Based on this dataset, through Machine Learning, a Neural Network has been developed to assess fall risk in older adults.

Smart Floor Fall Risk Profile (SF-FRP)

Based on the analysis, a Smart Floor Fall Risk Profile (SF-FRP) is generated. This score falls into one of three categories - low, increased, or high fall risk - and is displayed in an easily interpreted thermometer.

The result can be used to motivate individuals to stay active and keep exercising, or as a starting point for conversations about how to reduce fall risk and improve vitality.

When measuring periodic, the score also provides a way to monitor progress over time. This makes it possible to intervene early if the fall risk increases.

Smart Floor data report

Every quarter, all of our costumers receive a data report. These reports provide insights into the number of people who have been measured and the corresponding outcomes of these measurements.

In addition, by creating different locations within our application, it is possible to compare results across neighborhoods, villages, or city districts.
